Scattering in the PT -symmetric Coulomb potential

چکیده
Scattering on the PT -symmetric Coulomb potential is studied along a Ushaped trajectory circumventing the origin in the complex x plane from below. This trajectory reflects PT symmetry, sets the appropriate boundary conditions for bound states and also allows the restoration of the correct sign of the energy eigenvalues. Scattering states are composed from the two linearly independent solutions valid for non-integer values of the 2L parameter, which would correspond to the angular momentum in the usual Hermitian setting. Transmission and reflection coefficients are written in closed analytic form and it is shown that similarly to other PT -symmetric scattering systems the latter exhibit handedness effect. Bound-state energies are recovered from the poles of the transmission coefficients.

The Coulomb – harmonic oscillator correspondence in PT symmetric quantum mechanics
We show that and how the Coulomb potential V (x) = Z e/x can be regularized and solved exactly at the imaginary coupling Z e. The new spectrum of energies is real and bounded as expected, but its explicit form proves totally different from the usual real-coupling case.
متن کاملOvercritical PT -symmetric square well potential in the Dirac equation
We study scattering properties of a PT -symmetric square well potential with real depth larger than the threshold of particle-antiparticle pair production as the time component of a vector potential in the Dirac equation. Spontaneous pair production inside the well becomes tiny beyond the strength at which discrete bound states with real energies disappear, consistently with a spontaneous break...
متن کاملPT −symmetric Sturmians
Sturmian bound states emerging at a fixed energy and numbered by a complete set of real eigencouplings λn are considered. For Sturm-Schrödinger equations which are manifestly non-Hermitian we outline the way along which the correct probabilistic interpretation of the system can constructively be re-established via a new formula for the metric. PT −symmetrized Coulomb potential is chosen for ill...
متن کاملA schematic model of scattering in PT −symmetric Quantum Mechanics
One-dimensional scattering problem admitting a complex, PT −symmetric shortrange potential V (x) is considered. Using a Runge-Kutta-discretized version of Schrödinger equation we derive the formulae for the reflection and transmission coefficients and emphasize that the only innovation emerges in fact via a complexification of one of the potential-characterizing parameters. متن کاملNon-Hermitian quantum mechanics: the case of bound state scattering theory
Excited bound states are often understood within scattering based theories as resulting from the collision of a particle on a target via a short-range potential. We show that the resulting formalism is non-Hermitian and describe the Hilbert spaces and metric operator relevant to a correct formulation of such theories. The structure and tools employed are the same that have been introduced in cu...
